About this Course
All students can learn to read and write! Based on findings from Karen Erickson and David Koppenhaver, in their book Comprehensive Literacy for All: Teaching Students with Significant Disabilities to Read and Write, there are 10 conditions necessary for providing high-quality and comprehensive literacy instruction to students with significant disabilities. This course provides a brief introduction to each of the 10 conditions.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
- Identify the 10 Conditions for Literacy Success
- Use a decision tree to determine if a student is currently an emergent or conventional literacy learner
- Define the difference between passive student learning and active student engagement
- Reflect on current classroom practices as it relates to literacy instruction
